"I’m constantly inspired by all the strong women around me and wanted to create something that not only inspires other women but empowers them while wearing it," says style setter Julie Sariñana of her newest collab with Billabong. "This collection embodies more of a confident and creative spirit that pays tribute to self-expression and self-empowerment." The blogger first linked up with the surf brand last year to create a capsule collection based on her personal style and a shared love of the ocean. Now with the launch of its second iteration, we caught up with Jules herself to hear what it's all about this time around.
Congrats on another collection with Billabong! Where did you find inspiration?
Thanks so much! I really wanted to do something different this collection and focus on colors, bold patterns and timeless silhouettes. Both Billabong and I share a love for creative expression and travel, so we really wanted to bring this collection to life by shooting the campaign within the vibrant streets and breathtaking landscapes of Colombia.
How has it changed or evolved from last season’s?
This collection feels completely different and maybe a little unexpected. The last one was more about our love for the ocean and conquering fears. We used light fabrics and colors as well as soft styles that reflect the love of the desert and sea, whereas this collection we went with bolder textiles and prints and silhouettes that make a statement while really focusing on color.
Do you surf?
I’ve tried learning how to surf with Billabong but I was terrible at it. I’d say more so because I’m terrified of being in the ocean that it has always stopped me from learning how to surf. Being in the ocean has always been one of my biggest phobias which is ironic because I love the ocean and beach so much.
What are your beach day essentials?
Definitely SPF, a good pair of sunglasses and a wide-brim straw hat.
How does the collection reflect your personal style?
I love that this collection is a mix of the things I like: fun prints, bold colors and versatile silhouettes. It has a surfer-meets-skater-cool-girl vibe and I’m definitely a mix of both.
What is one item in your closet that might surprise us?
Maybe my collection of vintage Levi's. I’m obsessed with finding the perfect pair of jeans.
What’s one item you'll never get rid of?
Probably my good ol’ vintage denim jacket and my Chanel bag. Classics!
What are your favorite pieces from the collaboration, and how do you wear them?
The Mix It Up rainbow dress is one of my favorite pieces. It feels so fun and vibrant and can be worn to multiple occasions, from going to an event, brunch with friends, strolling the beach or on a date with my love, this dress just works. The Santorini Dreams top and Hard to Tell bottoms are on the top of the list as well. I love mixing these pieces up and wearing the top with a pair of denim shorts, a skirt or even jeans. The shorts can be worn with pretty much anything—a crop top, a relaxed T-shirt tied at the waist or even a bathing suit. I like to wear the matching set together and toss on my favorite sandals with the So Clutch straw bag.
Do you have any exciting vacation plans coming up?
I have a few adventures up my sleeve. I’m currently planning Paris to visit family for a bit and making it to one of my favorite places in the world soon, Tulum, where I’m excited to style out pieces from my Billabong collection outside of the campaign photos we shot.
What’s your number one warm-weather dressing tip?
My number one dressing tip for warm weather would be a white, crisp linen button up. It will probably be the most versatile item you can possibly have—it’s lightweight, easy and so effortless.
